Frequently Asked Questions: Power Boating

The Club is a unique and innovative way to get out on the water affordably and conveniently.  Naturally, you may have some questions about how the Club operates.   Below is our comprehensive set of Frequently Asked Questions and Answers.  If you have a question that's not completely answered below, please contact us to ask.
How Do I reserve a boat?

The club has a very extensive on-line reservation system that allows you to have complete control over when you want to boat.

Am I covered by insurance while using the boats?
Yes, CBC maintains insurance that covers all of our vessels as well as third party liability.
Are there any fees beyond the club dues?

There are no additional usage fees, but you are responsible for your fuel.

What do I need to know before using the power boats?
All members must have at least basic safe boating and navigational skills. We will go over the operation of each individual boat before your first outing.  We also offer private instruction if additional training is needed.
How many times can I really expect to get a boat ?

We have members who go out more than 50 times per year.  Your schedule is the only real constraint.

Can I upgrade to Level 2 membership in mid-season?
Yes. We will credit any unused portion of your L1 membership.
Can I start a membership in mid-season?

Yes,  all memberships are valid for 12 months from your starting date.  Any time is a good time to start!

What is the "Check Out" ride and how long does it last?
Before having access to on-line boat reservations, all members are scheduled for an onboard 'Check Out'. This process covers all the systems of the boat, docking procedures and policies, as well as giving you some expert pointers in boat use.  You should plan on 2.5 to 3 hours, scheduled before your first use.
Where is J/Port?
J/Port is conveniently located on Back Creek on Eastern Avenue between 2nd and 3rd Street in Eastport…just a stones throw from the Severn River/Chesapeake Bay and great local watering holes for after boating activities!

Club Member Testimonials

  • Thanks for your help in planning my trip. Having someone who has actually sailed there and knows the best places to go is a real help. I don't normally write thank you letters because good service should be expected but my experience with Chesapeake Boating Club has been so far above what I expected that I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated it.
